This sequence resonates a lot with me as someone who is constantly running low on time. It’s a great series for either first thing in the morning to enliven your body, or for a mid-day break to re-charge and re-center. It’s a great sequence for anyone, but I especially recommend it for people who work sedentary desk jobs. Movement is so important, and this is a great routine to break up your day and bring some circulation back into the body. It’s also great for people who have such a tight schedule that they don’t have time to get to a group class. Even finding 15 minutes to do the routine on your own can keep you building your strength and flexibility, and 15 minutes is better than nothing!
In the video, we go over the sequence a bit more slowly just to show you the different options for poses and to briefly touch on some technique, but with practice you can narrow down your routine to a quick 15-20 minutes. We touched on a few Sun Salutations, and some standing Vinyasa sequences that add extra stretching and strengthening to the more traditional postures to get more BANG FOR YOUR BUCK. The goal was to cover all the basic spinal movements and stretch out the major muscle groups as quickly as possible. The class is open-level, but it’s helpful to have some knowledge of yoga beforehand. If you’re a more advanced practitioner, feel free to move more quickly or even throw in some of your own moves. If you have any injuries, always listen to your body and check with a physician if you have questions about yoga with an injury. You can skip anything you want, take breaks when you need to, and modify the postures to better fit your needs.

We will borrow from ballet to work WITH our body, and focus on how to monitor and combat a few common bad habits that can lead to injury if left unchecked.
This quick routine is a perfect way to start the day, or to use as a Check-in every once in a while in addition to other physical activities. Even those who are very advanced and fit can benefit from this deceptively simple routine!
We start with modified pliés, front and side bends, and proper form for seated toe-touches. Unlike ballet which focuses on a proper turnout which takes years to achieve, we focus on modified forms that work within our current safe range of motion. This routine focuses more on form and posture than cardio or strength training, so recommended as an add-on to other exercises.
Not recommended for those with knee or hip problems. Nude with a towel for the floor or loose clothing recommended as clothing can restrict our full range of motion. -NYV0123A

IT Band, (also known as the Iliotibial Band) is a multipurpose tendon that runs down the length of the outer thigh, from the top of the pelvis (uppermost and largest part of the hip bone) to the shin bone (two bones below the knee).
Pain and irritation in the IT band are usually caused by training too much (too quickly), or by lack of flexibility in the surrounding muscles. That tightness begins to pull on the band and pain would begin.
In this video, I will demonstrate Foam Rolling Techniques and yoga poses that can release that pain. Join me and enjoy the practice!

I have a really tight upper body, so I put together this routine over the years as a way to help open up my chest, arms, shoulders, neck, and upper back. If this resonates with you, give this routine a try! It’s a combination of yoga, Pilates, and even dance and other movement techniques. We spend so much time hunched over our computers and phones, so it’s important to do movement that opposes those actions. It’s a wonderful sequence for people who desire more flexibility in the upper body, but not necessarily for those with injuries of the neck, shoulders, or wrists. Of course, if you have any injuries, always listen to your body and check with a physician if you have questions about yoga with an injury. You can skip anything you want, take breaks when you need to, and modify the postures to better fit your needs. Some of the details on the poses are actually helpful modifications for those with injuries in the upper body, but this routine is mostly for folks without upper body injuries who want a deep stretch. The class itself is more of an intermediate routine, so it’s helpful to have some experience with yoga, although you can follow along even if you’re a beginner. If you’re a more advanced practitioner, feel free to move more quickly or add in some vinyasa flows between the postures (and I cued some of those opportunities). As I mention in the video, tight muscles don’t necessarily indicate strong muscles, so we also spend some time working on strengthening the upper body. I’ll guide you through some Sun Salutations, Warriors, and even some seated and lying-down poses, but we’ll take the usual postures and find ways to increase strength-building or flexibility specifically for the upper body. Have a yoga strap and a couple blocks handy! -NYV0122B

This is a comedic improvisational movement practice for those who may not be used to using their body for creative movement! I can often find myself feeling stuck, uncreative, unsure of how to continue a story, etc. In this video, the student and I will start with a three line prompt and come up with the rest of the story by physically acting it out! Our three-line prompt was: “Suzy walked to the beach. She found a shell she liked. She picked it up.” We ended up with an elaborate story that had us both laughing! -NYV0123E

If you suffer from lower back or hip pain, like 4/10 people, maybe we can help you! This kind of stiffness or discomfort is often a result of an irritation in the Sciatic Nerve. The feeling can be AWFUL, like a shooting pain that goes right down your leg into your feet. One of the ways to help curb this agony is to stretch this muscle located deep in your hip called the Piriformis. This is a practice that shows a few stretches that can get to that deeply located muscle so this pain can stop ruining you day. This practice is not recommended for those with severely crippling sciatica as it is still not gentle enough. Consult your doctor before doing any yoga at this strong beginner level if you have any history of health problems with your hips. Feel Better! -NYV0121B

Opening the shoulder’s and neck are a must, if you work at a desk all day, stressed, lift weights, or maybe carry a baby all day. Many of us suffer from stiff and sore muscles. Opening these muscles can help relieve that. We, including myself, tend to hold tension in our necks that travel into our shoulders. This can cause stiffness, aches, or injuries. These asanas and stretches may help relieve some of that tension. Massage and acupuncture can also be useful tool if yoga is not enough. Stretching is always important. The body needs to relieve itself and can cause an unhealthy balance in your body and life. Many of these stretches you can do anywhere. At work or the comforts of your own home. This is my personal GET READY FOR BED routine. There’s a lot of yoga postures that people recommend for winding down, but for my routine, I specifically target the muscles that are often overworked and overlooked throughout my day running around the city. By the end of the day, my feet are killing me, my back is in pain and I’m slouching, my joints are stiff, and my attention is scattered. This is a great routine for anyone right before bed to help care for tired, achey muscles, and center and calm the mind to get ready for a good night’s sleep. It’s also a good routine to promote relaxation if you’re feeling a bit anxious.
In the video, I borrow from ballet to help stretch out our feet, then move through some yoga forward folds to release the hamstrings and the back. We spend a lot of time seated and lying down to promote relaxation and the feeling of the ground supporting you. Most importantly, we breathe, very slowly and intentionally. It’s an open-level class for anyone even if you don’t have experience with yoga. If you have any injuries, always listen to your body and check with a physician if you have questions about yoga with an injury. If you wanna show off your flexibility skill on your Instagram photos, this class is for you! However, being able to split doesn’t have any health benefit. So, don’t go too crazy about this. In this video, I will demonstrate front split and side split. I recommend you to spend good amount of warming up, before you start excessive stretches that open up your hip, that can lead to injuries. Also, I have to let you know that you will not achieve full splits in overnight. It’s a practice that would need to build up to it by daily practice. So, take your time, listen to your body.
